Looking for a gentle and creative way to strengthen your yoga or meditation practice? What if we told you that your knitting needles can become your best zen allies? At Knit-Sis, we're convinced that knitting is more than just a hobby: it's a true mindfulness practice. And what better way to combine relaxation, creativity, and well-being than by creating your own yoga accessories?

In this article, we'll guide you step by step through knitting yoga socks and making meditation cushions. These projects are simple, accessible, and, above all, full of color and good humor, just like our world.

🧘 Why knit your yoga and meditation accessories?

🧠 Knitting, an active meditation

Knitting is known for its benefits on stress and anxiety. The repetitive movements and focus required to follow a pattern promote relaxation and concentration, similar to the effects of meditation. This is called knitting therapy.

🧘Personalized and adapted accessories

By knitting your own yoga socks or meditation cushions, you can choose the colors, textures, and shapes that suit you. It's an opportunity to create unique objects that reflect your personality and practice.

🧶 Why yoga socks?

Yoga socks are designed to keep your feet warm while providing good grip on the mat. They are usually heelless and toeless, making them easier to knit and ideal for beginners.

🧵 Necessary material

▪️A ball of wool or cotton (about 100g)

▪️3mm double pointed or circular needles

▪️A wool needle for finishing touches

🧘♀️ Steps of realization

1️⃣ Cast on 56 stitches on three needles and knit in the round with the fourth.

2️⃣ Knit in 2/2 ribbing for about 10 cm.

3️⃣ Leave an opening for the heel by casting off stitches and bringing them up on the next row.

4️⃣ Continue in stockinette stitch or ribbing as you prefer until the desired length.

5️⃣ Cast off the stitches and finish the work.

▪️Stuffing: spelt hulls or polystyrene balls (approx. 1.5 kg)

▪️100 cm zipper

▪️Assorted thread and sewing accessories

🧘 Steps of implementation

1️⃣ Cut out two circles of 33 cm diameter for the top and bottom.

2️⃣ Cut out a 100 x 17 cm rectangle for the side.

3️⃣ Assemble the pieces by inserting the zipper on the side.

4️⃣ Fill the cushion with the chosen filling.

5️⃣ Close the zipper and enjoy your handmade zafu.
