Garter stitch
Garter stitch is the easiest stitch to make. It gives an elastic and slightly wavy look to the work. To knit it, simply knit all the stitches on all rows.
The jersey stitch
Stockinette stitch is the most commonly used stitch in knitting. It gives a smooth and regular appearance to the work. To knit it, alternate the right and wrong rows.
The ribs
Ribbing is a stretchy pattern formed by alternating knit and purl stitches on the same row. 1x1 ribbing is the easiest to make. It consists of knitting one knit stitch then one purl stitch on every row.
